MARQUETTE, MICHIGAN— April 10, 2025— Honor Credit Union is proud to partner with the Marquette Police Department to help fund the purchase of an enclosed trailer for their newly acquired snowmobile. Honor’s $5,000 donation will support the department’s effort to enhance trail safety and community engagement throughout Marquette County.
For over a decade, the Marquette Police Department has been working to replace its aging 2006 snowmobile, which is used to patrol approximately 10 miles of sanctioned trails within the city and assist with joint patrols throughout the county. While grant funding allowed for the purchase of a new snowmobile, additional funds were needed to acquire an enclosed trailer to properly store and transport it.
“Honor Credit Union is proud to support the City of Marquette Police Department with a donation that helped purchase a snowmobile trailer,” said Christy Smith, Marquette Member Center Manager. “This addition enhances their ability to respond to emergencies and keep the community safe, even in the most challenging U.P. winter conditions.”
The enclosed trailer will not only protect the new snowmobile from salt and debris but will also serve as a visible deterrent for unsafe riding practices with clear police insignia. Beyond its functional use, the trailer will support community outreach initiatives, including safety demonstrations at events like National Night Out and a new Snowmobile Safety Program in partnership with the Michigan DNR.
“The Marquette Police Department has the unique opportunity to utilize a snowmobile for patrol functions within the City of Marquette,” said Sgt. Seth Bjorne. “Officers on snowmobile patrol are there to assist the public, respond to emergencies, and ensure riders are safe on the trails. Thanks to generous support from Honor Credit Union and other donors, we can continue serving the community in a safe and effective way.”
This donation, along with additional funding from other sources, allowed the department to move forward with purchasing the trailer this year. This contribution is a reflection of Honor Credit Union’s dedication to enhancing community well-being, from supporting local law enforcement with essential equipment to fostering initiatives that promote safety and engagement. Honor Credit Union remains committed to supporting the communities it serves by investing in safety, education, and local partnerships that make a difference.
